The Recruitment Process at Walsall College

The reason we are taking our time to ascertain if we are indeed right for each other is because we don’t want to apologize for taking time. By that, we mean the application process for Walsall College jobs will certainly be thorough.
Our recruitment processes are very fair and simple. The content of your application and your assessment will be specific to the position you apply for, but at the same time, the process is fair and applies alike to all candidates.

Below is an overview of the recruitment process for a teaching role:

Application: Apply through the vacancy portal on the website, following the instructions and providing all the necessary information.

Application Review: The recruiting manager reviews all applications and draws up a shortlist.

Selection Process: If you get to the shortlist stage, you will usually be contacted by email and asked to attend a selection process. At least you will be told what that includes and when.

Practical Assessment: Be prepared to present a practical session—we call this a ‘micro-teach.’ This is usually 10-15 minutes long, and you will be informed of the topic and the time limit in advance. Generally, it will be to a real-life group of students.
The students are in our heart of what we do, and as part of the process, they will be asked for their feedback. They don’t make the employment choice, but their feedback is an important and invaluable section in our process.

Other Assessments: Some will have extra activities within the process and will be specific to the role/area for which you are applying. Group discussion activities may be examples. You will know if any specific assessments are included, but don’t be surprised if you don’t get the sneak peek until the day. Those might be group activities along with fellow participants.

Individual Interview: If you have successfully passed the practical assessment(s), you may then be invited for interview. This is generally in the form of a panel interview with 2 or 3 panel members, but it can depend partly on your application. Panel members in the majority of cases are relevant management staff or a representative of the HR team.
