About Matalan
Matalan stands as a prominent retailer in both the UK and international markets, known for providing exceptional value in fashion and home goods. With more than 270 locations and a strong online shopping platform, Matalan has earned the trust of millions.
Founded by John Hargreaves in 1985, Matalan Retail Ltd., headquartered in Knowsley, Merseyside, remains under the ownership of the Hargreaves family. By 2020, the business had grown to employ over 13,000 individuals and boasted 230 stores across the UK while also featuring franchise outlets in the Middle East.
The inaugural Matalan store opened its doors in Bamber Bridge, Lancashire, back in 1985. By 1995, this number had expanded to fifty stores.
